We like to organise litter-picking activities in Longley Woods. Dates and times can be found on our social media pages and we message our WhatsApp group as well. The best time for large scale litter-picks is before the bluebells appear in the Spring and during the winter when the brambles have died back but we can litter-pick at any time of the year where the litter is accessible.
Solo litter-picking and reporting fly-tipping makes a massive difference too and we are grateful to our Friends who take a carrier bag along when they are walking or photograph and report fly-tipping to Kirklees. Fly-tipping shouldn’t be moved but can be reported here.
Anecdotal evidence tells us that areas that are litter free stay litter free for longer so picking up stray litter can make a big difference. If you want to read an interesting study about this topic you can find a link here: Warwick University- Using behavioural science to reduce littering.
